VOLUNTEER WORK IN PERU WITH LLAMA EDUCATION

In cooperation with Burners Without Borders, we select projects in which students can volunteer to help the local (mostly economically disadvantaged) population.

Sufficient knowledge of Spanish (at least level Chachani) is required for involvement.

Our volunteer program offers the opportunity to study Spanish, and also gives you the opportunity to live and to work in Peru for cultural exchange.

You will experience the cultural diversity while you cultivate a better understanding of the level in the Spanish language. Through our program you can contribute to Peruvian society and improve relations between foreign visitors and the local population.

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

Help us to help: The children

This project began in 2007 with the adoption of two girls aged four and five who lived with us. This program will educate, nourish, protect, and prepare children for social and intellectual development. We will also encourage children to develop educational workshops until they finish a career and be worthy citizens with moral principles, worthy customs and great development.

At present, Maria is dedicated to fulfilling the needs of these girls have, and most importantly, Maria loves them as her own. These girls now have a mother and two sisters Diana and Sonja, and now Maria has four daughters.

The Volunteers

In this project you can elect which field you'd like to carry out your work, for example:

• working with children
• working with adolescents
• working with abused and victimised women
• victims of family violence
• incapacitated adults, elderly etc.

Other fields of interest include social work, education, tourism, cultural work and simultaneous survival.

Your volunteer assignments will be located in Arequipa or Chivay. The majority of our projects are located in Arequipa; but also outside the city. We protect our students at each of the projects and at every moment; we work for the integral security of each student. The complete list of the projects is available upon on request. PROCEDURE

When you subscribe to one of the programs, we will ask you to send us your project preferences, CV, and a motivation letter - outlinging your reasons for taking on volunteer work. Our coordinator makes a summary of your objectives, of your Spanish level and your previous experiences as well as the needs of the organization. If your placement is agreed, we will send you a conformation document.

The volunteer program lasts for a minimum of six weeks. The first two weeks you will study Spanish, followed by four weeks of voluntary work. During the Spanish language course you decide whether you wish to stay with a Peruvian family in Arequipa, or at our school. During your voluntary work you will stay in a dormitory along with the other voluntary students.

DONATIONS

Participation in the volunteer program is completely free (except for the language course and lodging). All we ask for is a voluntary contribution to help support the project of yoru choice. We help local Peruvians by buying food, buy educational material, helping to fix broken windows, etc. We remind you that you only donations are not compulsory

REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERING

• Be at least 18 years old
• Choosing the Volunteer Program which is closest to your needs
• Understanding the restrictions that our traditional conservative culture imposes (e.g. wearing appropriate clothes -- no miniskirts, shorts, low or skimpy tops etc; avoiding romantic relationships with the personnel or youths in care.)
• Following the decisions of your social project leader.
• Behaving morally at the volunteer work place and being willing to comply with the norms established by the institution.
